Flight to Ft Lauderdale

Designated as the 'Venice of America', the beautiful city of Fort Lauderdale in Florida, boasts of some of the best beaches in America and an extensive system of inland canals. It is located approximately 23 miles north of Miami, in the east central position of Broward County.

Besides sunbathing, swimming, fishing and sightseeing, Fort Lauderdale offers some world class shopping. There is a selection of upscale boutiques, galleries and shops along Las Ollas Boulevard with more in the nearby Riverfront Center. For more serious shoppers, the Galleria Mall near downtown offers over one hundred upscale shops and department stores, but the ultimate shopping experience lies twelve miles (20 km) west of downtown. Sawgrass Mills Mall has over 350 discount stores plus an assortment of restaurants and fast food eateries. It is one of the largest discount outlet malls in the USA.

Fort Lauderdale is home to the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop, a large indoor/outdoor flea market and the site of the world's largest drive-in movie theater, with 13 screens.The International Swimming Hall of Fame is located on Fort Lauderdale beach, and houses a large aquatic complex as well as a museum, theater, and research library.Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a 180-acre park along the beach, with nature trails, camping and picnicking areas, canoeing, and features the Terramar Visitor Center, with exhibits about the ecosystem of the park. The Henry E. Kinney Tunnel on US Route 1 is the only tunnel on public land in the state of Florida. It was constructed in 1960, and its 864-foot length travels underneath the New River and Las Olas Boulevard. The James Randi Educational Foundation is also located in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale features many superb tourist attractions, including the Flamingo Gardens - with around 60 acres / 24 hectares of lush botanical gardens and an abundance of natural and exotic beauty; Jungle Queen Riverboat Tours - a traditional Mississippi riverboat, providing guided sightseeing tours; Glassbottom Boat Tours - the perfect way to view Fort Lauderdale's breathtaking coral reefs and underwater marine creatures; the Pompano Park Harness Track - the only pari-mutuel harness racetrack in Florida; the Riverwalk Downtown - an important green belt area within the city, with picnic areas, walking and jogging trails, and street entertainers; and Mills Pond Park - a big city park offering many recreational and sporting activities in this sunny city.

Fort Lauderdale also contains many top museums and the most notable of these include the Museum of Discovery and Science - with more than 200 exhibits and an IMAX theater, providing fascinating information about many aspects of nature and technology; the Fort Lauderdale Historical Museum - overflowing with exhibits about the history of the city; the Museum of Art - showcasing works by famous artists, including Picasso, Calder, Dali and Warhol; and the New River Fine Art Gallery - reputed to be one of Florida's oldest galleries, housing a fine collection of art.
