Flight to Boston
Boston is situated near the south-east coast of Lincolnshire, where the River Witham becomes the Haven on its short journey to The Wash. It is an historic and attractive market town which is dominated by the 14th-century St.Botolph's Church whose 271ft high tower is a landmark for miles around.
New England is unpredictable and becomes very cold in the winter and humid in the summer. Late May through late September, you'll be comfortable with no jacket or sweater.
When the heat does start, there are some beaches within the city, and many beaches outside of it, for swimming. The Standells classic "Dirty Water" doesn't apply any more as the water is safe to swim in thanks to the Boston Harbor Cleanup project.
Boston, MA, is a relatively compact city and most of the major places of interest are within walking distance of each other. Tourists and business travelers will find that there is a wide selection of Boston hotels available to suit every taste and budget, ranging from the most luxurious hotels and large chains, to smaller inexpensive lodging. Those planning a vacation in Boston should bear in mind that hotels here are amongst the most expensive in New England, with the busiest times including the college graduation weekends each May, and during the summer and autumn months. Consider staying in the pleasant South End area if you prefer more intimate B&B style accommodation to large, less personal hotels. Alternatively, you can always find a great selection of Boston apartments in the many unique neighborhoods.
The whole of the greater Boston area is served by an excellent transport system, including an underground railway - the 'T', which is perhaps the easiest way to travel into and around the city. Logan Airport, handling over 60 airlines, is located close to the harborside area and can be quickly reached by the subway.
There are world-class collections in both the city's museums and art galleries, and visitors will find everything from the finest in international dining to shopping that extends from great bargains to the ultimate in chic. Boston is also home to some top sporting teams. The Boston Celtics are America's most famous professional basketball team and few teams have a more illustrious history than the well-known Red Sox, New England's one and only major-league baseball team.
The Boston area is rich in history and culture, and with a vast array of activities to select from, visitors with just a few days in the Baystate may find themselves wondering what activities to put on their must-see list.
These three activities will give visitors a taste of Boston and New England culture, while keeping all members of the family entertained: Take a Boston Duck Boat Tour, Visit the Museum of Science, Visit Plimoth Plantation.
