Flight to Bahrain

The Kingdom of Bahrain-a name that translates as "Two Seas"-is actually an archipelago of 33 low-lying islands located in the heart of the Gulf. Situated along major Arabian and international trade routes between Asia and the West, the Kingdom has, for millennia, served as an important port and center of business. Bahrain has rich and varied cultural heritage with excavated ruins of ancient temples and grave mounds. Bahrain also possesses several forts that had been constructed during the medieval times, like the Arad Fort, Bahrain Fort, etc. Bahrain and Manama also boast of several old houses that are charming and intriguing.

Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands. The country was once named Dilmun by ancient Sumerians, considered an island paradise in which there was no disease, death or suffering, and where gods resided. Although modern Bahrain has not retained such mythical status, many still flock to frolic in its heavenly shoreline, and many still perceive the country as blissful respite from less lenient Islamic countries.

However, Bahrain is still imbued with Islamic tradition. Manama, the capital, is jam-packed with majestic mosques and minarets. Some females dress in western-style clothing but immodesty is still frowned upon. It is a symbolic bridge that connects the archipelago to Saudi Arabia's mainland.

There's more to shopping in Bahrain than just the malls, however, and your experience would not be complete without a visit to the suqs, or traditional markets. The biggest and most popular of these is the Manama suq, right in the heart of the city behind Bab Al Bahrain. Other recommended markets to visit include the Muharraq suq, the Iranian Suq in Isa Town (second hand goods, bric-a-brac and an interesting bird market), the Adliya carpet merchants, and the craft centres in Manama where you can be sure to pick up authentic Bahraini souvenirs.

Bahrain has much more nightlife than you might expect. There are bars, nightclubs and some very sophisticated entertainment, jazz, opera, ballet and theatre. There is an abundance of quality restaurants, most of which serve alcohol and the food is usually of an exceptional standard. Something that must be experienced is the traditional Arabic night. They are very good fun due to a combination of belly dancing, live music, and great food. There is also a huge choice of bars and pubs.

Bahrain's hotels offer FIVE Star luxury Hotels and FOUR Star Hotels with elegant decor, impeccable service, and every facility imaginable to satisfy the most demanding guests. Bahrain also offers a wide selection of Three Star, Two Star and One Star Hotels. Bahrain also offers an excellent range of Luxury & Economy apartments that are available on short or long term lets. The Hotels will usually provide free transport from Bahrain airport if notified in advance and have satellite TV as well as the local channels. Many Bahrain hotels have a variety of shops - for example gift shops, bookshops, florists and jewellers - and provide services such as hairdressers, beauty salons, banks, travel agents, car hire and children's amusement arcades. Bahrain also caters for those who prefer the privacy an Apartment affords or the facilities that Resorts offer. Bahrain's Hotels are not simply places to stay but also offer varied live entertainment and so are centres of social life and places to meet both members of the expatriate community and Arabs in surroundings where the normal rules of behaviour are relaxed slightly. Although entry is definitely not usually restricted to hotel guests, some clubs within Bahrain hotels allow entry only to couples and mixed groups.

The summers are very hot but the winters are comparatively mild. November to April is the ideal period for visiting Bahrain. Bahrain is extensively linked by road, air, and sea. Banking and telecommunication facilities are excellent. Local currency is Dinar, which is pegged to the American dollar and is freely convertible.

There is the decent bus service that commuters can ride on while they are getting around the villages and other centers for attractions. A number of tourists have been getting around their itinerary on foot. Yet if kilometers or miles are covered by your getting around trips toward the far-flung attractions, then it is practical for you to ride on a bus or drive by yourself.
